Boiled down, what we want to know is are we predestined to live out our our genetic heritage or can we control and direct our own destiny.

Although the debate continues, there is overriding evidence that we are NOT held hostage to our genetic code.

However, what about when it comes to generating money and more specifically wealth? Is there a money gene, or for that matter a financial struggle gene?

When it comes to generating, keeping and growing wealth, is it Nature or Nurture?

The Money Gene

Consider this: Those who grow up with or were consistently around other wealthy people have an understanding of wealth that can be completely foreign to someone who grew up in poverty or has never been in a place of abundant cash flow.

E.G: If you grew up in rural China fifty or so years ago, the idea that people would NOT eat with chop sticks may have seemed, at best ridiculous and maybe even completely wrong.

So it is with money… What’s intriguing is that for those who don’t have it, money comes with a whole set of myths perpetuated by those who don’t have it.

Let me explain. We take for granted many of the things that are part of our everyday lives. However, many of those things we now take for granted are the same things people thought of as “evil” before they were understood.

For instance, at one point in history, even speaking about the idea that planet earth was not the center of the Universe or that the earth orbited around the sun got people imprisoned or even killed by those who believed such talk was evil.

What it comes down to is; by human nature, we tend to be suspicious of what we don’t understand. In truth, it’s pretty much the same with money and wealth. If you don’t understand it, you are likely to be suspicious of it. Did you get that, because it was short but also very important?

Okay, I’ll say it again a little differently.

Truth be known, you can blame your genetics for anything, but that doesn’t make it true.

What you know about money you’ve likely learned from those who did not have it or at least not enough of it. Doesn’t it make sense to put yourself in an environment with those who have a level of comfort with having and generating wealth, so as to nurture your own comfort with it? That way you can check to find out, if what you believe is actually true for those who do have it?”

"When You Can't Receive"

It was beautifully wrapped in special purple crepe paper with lavender ribbons cascading off the top.

It was obvious that Kathy was taken back when she saw it. What few would have known was that secretly she felt a little shameful at receiving the gift.

She later told me that as she received the gift, her instant thought was “Why would this person even be giving me a gift? Let alone spent time to make sure that the gift was perfectly wrapped?”

Kathy was discussing all this with me because she wanted to understand why she was automatically suspicious of such a generous act.

Kathy’s reaction wasn’t because she didn’t trust the giver, after all the person giving her the gift was someone she would trust with her life. No, this had nothing to do with anyone else. This had to do with Kathy. These feelings were all about how Kathy felt about herself. And the irony was that, to the outside world, Kathy is a strong, confident and successful woman.

Like Kathy, whatever you believe you are (or are not) capable of being—whatever it is—the freedom to live your dreams (or not) stems from your unconscious beliefs. Cumulatively these unconscious beliefs make up what I call your “Unconscious Deserving.”

As I just said, your Unconscious Deserving is a result of a set of beliefs. What is worth noting is that this set of beliefs is very old; chances are that you got most of them before you even knew they were beliefs.

This means that they have been held in your unconscious without question; they are beliefs that you weren’t even aware you had. Unconscious Deserving is a set of beliefs that tell us what it is that we deserve, or don’t deserve, and what’s more you’ve held these beliefs without question, up until now…

Stay with me here because this doesn’t mean that every one of these beliefs is crap.

You might have some good and helpful unconscious beliefs like”I deserve financial security” or”I deserve a good and relationship.”   On the other hand, they can and often are more dis-empowering and harmful like “I never get a break” or “No one could ever love someone like me.”

Now before you run off to grab a Black and Decker to start drilling into your head to remove these crappy briefs, it’s worth remembering that, for the most part, all this is going on at the subconscious level. What that means is that even though you are saying to yourself this doesn’t make sense, that you are a kind and giving person who does deserve good stuff, your unconscious could be saying something else altogether. Whatever it is that we unconsciously believe we deserve is what is being fed directly into our lives, causing us to get exactly what it is we believe we deserve.

In fact, as much as many people want to believe in the magical properties of this or that, your “unconscious deserving” influences what you can and cannot attract in life.

In fact if this is the case, it doesn’t matter how hard you work towards something—you may even be pushing it further away—because  the resonance of old beliefs held within unconscious deserving can trump your conscious efforts in the long run. I talked this in a previous article here called Conscious Vs Subconscious Poop

The cool thing is that when you begin questioning your beliefs, you are inadvertently questioning the level of unconscious deserving and, as a result, you begin attracting something different into your life. As you begin questioning those unquestioned beliefs, you are beginning to shake the foundation of your old life. In doing that, your inner quantum genie starts to bring you very different things!

“Who you were yesterday is ONLY who you were yesterday. Today you can choose who you will be tomorrow.”

Recognize that, and you take back the reins that determine where you are going and when. Recognize that and you are back in control of your destiny because you know that you can change your beliefs, which changes your unconscious deserving, which changes your resonance, which changes what you attract into your life.

So how do you change your unconscious deserving?
Here’s a four step way you can begin making changes today:

1. Get out a pen and paper and start writing down the areas of your life that are not working at optimum
2. Begin by writing down, (this must be uncensored) any belief you MIGHT have about that part of your life
3. Find someone, who has success/massive joy in that area and interview them. Discover what their beliefs are about whatever it is you are struggling with.
4. Be willing to adopt some of those more empowering beliefs

oh and 5, this is a bonus: Get your butt in the seat at “Claim Your Competitive Edge” It will rock your world it will shatter many of those old crappy beliefs!

Remember, the beliefs that form your unconscious deserving feed into your resonance attracting to you what you want—and what you don’t want —in your life.

When Shelly stepped in front of her two kids, she could feel her very insides shake. She knew very well that she was placing herself in the direct line of fire of verbal abuse from their father.

Unless someone is watching the news and listening to some political pundit complain, most people never really think about leadership – what it is, what it takes or what the effects of great, solid leadership can be. As a result, many times we don’t even realize that we are being presented with the opportunity to lead when we are moving through our everyday situations.

All too often, we don’t even start thinking about leadership and our development as a leader until it is, for whatever reason, suddenly thrust upon us. However, leadership, in its truest form, is not so much a title as a mindset. It is, as Jack Zufelt would call it, a heart-set.

Leadership mindset: Some would describe the leadership mindset as a set of beliefs, values and attitudes directed to empower people. Others speak of leaders being born not made, and that the “mindset” was either there or not. Still other believe that leadership is absolutely dictatorial, a “our leader, right or wrong” position.

We can go many different directions in addressing these attitudes. However, within the confines of this particular article we will look at the mindset of leadership as making a shift in thinking and priorities, which moves your focus from “you” to “us,” from “me” to “we.”

Stay with me if you will, because what I’m suggesting is that the real glory in leadership comes not from what you achieve, but from what you help others to accomplish. It’s a selfless journey into empowering people to step up, to better themselves and perform to their greatest potential.

All of which is demonstrated by you as a leader. A great moment in leadership occurs when you, as a leader, lift someone upon your shoulders to see the previously impossible as a reachable possibility…

Real leaders are champions for others, and “the cause.” … They remove the interference that threatens to block the pathways that lead to peak performance and fulfilling experiences.

Having said all that, and hopefully having inspired you into a greater level of personal leadership, there is one further point I want to touch on regarding embracing a leadership mindset: Despite the media images we are given, at the forefront of great leadership is authenticity. Great leaders are REAL!

The challenge in contemporary leadership is that far too many “leaders” are afraid to offend, and as a result, they bend and twist, until there is little left of the reasons we choose them as leaders in the first place.

In so many businesses and organizations, “leadership” is something people think that you do rather something you are. So many of today’s leaders are nothing more than a robotic façade carrying out a set of functions instead of actually leading. And for my money that is NOT real leadership!

That being said even though their resolve may be absolutely solid, a true leaders are not made of steel.  A true leader is real, and as much as we would like to make them more than human, leaders are as human as any of us; they feel pain frustration and the disappointment that their position naturally brings.

Why, then, are so many leaders paper heroes?
Because as much as companies may demand that people be themselves at work, the unwritten rules in organizations stop that from happening.

Needless to say, there is far more to leadership than I have covered here. What is here is intended to start the wheels of your mind turning as to how you are presented with the opportunity to lead each and every day.

What does it take to shift from feeling and experiencing financial panic to feeling and experiencing financial flow?

“I can still remember being a child hiding with my mom and siblings as the rent man would bang, bang, bang the door knocker…

Our hearts would race, afraid to so much as breath for fear of being heard.  Facing the rent man without the rent meant the potential for homelessness.”

You know what’s fascinating– my mother always made sure the rent was paid, even if it was late. We were never evicted or homeless, and yet for the first twenty plus years of my life at the end of each month, as rent day came approached I carried that childhood anxiety with me.

Even if the one or more of the questions below don’t make sense right away, stay with it! The answers can help uncover the reasons why you aren’t experiencing the financial abundance you deserve. One warning:
Be Perfectly Honest!

• Are you rich because you have money or do you have money because you’re rich?

• Are you poor because you don’t have money or don’t you have money because you’re poor?

• Are you struggling with money and because of that money is struggling to come to you?

• Are you more committed to having to struggle more than you are committed to having money?

• What would money give you that you want?

• What would money give you that you don’t want?

• What does struggling financially give you that you don’t want?

• What does struggling financially give you that you do want?

Please remember, you can lie or tell the truth, it’s your call.
You can BS me or someone else, but ultimately you can’t BS yourself.

So, dig in, answer the questions.

If you don’t feel worthy, if you are carrying shame that was put on you, or you put on yourself, there’s a good chance that you are resonating at a level of being worthless. The result will be that whatever you do for income will likely be a way for you to give of yourself away too cheaply.  This of course is another powerful qualifier of your lack of value and your ego-mind gets to be right, telling you that you’re a victim, and it’s not your fault, there’s nothing you can do about ‘it’.

Bull!

It’s time to step up: Deal with the guilt, shame, and crappy self worth; you are not a victim, unless you decide that’s what you are.

Start by making the decision to forgive yourself, and while you’re at it consider all the people you need to forgive because that’s not adding anything good to your resonance field either.

Very Important Point: Having read the last paragraph again I need to make something crystal clear:

Do not believe all the crap you’ve been feed about forgiving everyone else first, that ‘forgiveness is a holy path’. Here’s why most of the people I’ve met who are preaching this kind of fertilizer are by enlarge emotionally shut down, full of  buried resentment, topped off with a plastic smile.

That my friends is not, never will be, forgiveness.

I do agree that forgiveness can be a holy path, however, it needs to be ‘healthy forgiveness.’

Healthy Forgiveness has a very important level of accountability. In order to truly forgive we must first take full accountability for our part in whatever it was, (That doesn’t mean finding a new reason to beat the crap out of yourself) as well as seeing ‘their’ part in it.

Bottom line; not forgiving doesn’t help you or anyone else, but know this; healthy forgiveness has nothing to do with forgetting. And in truth:

There is no real forgiveness of another until we learn to forgive ourselves. ~Dõv Baron

Carrying around all that guilt, shame and resentment is like carrying an anti abundance shield, so take my advice and dump it like a bad enchilada. It’s up to you, what I want you to know whether you believe it or not, whether you are experiencing it or not, this is an abundant universe.  So drop your abundance shield, forgive yourself and decide what you need to do next. Or to put it another way:

Forgive and Let The Abundance Flow!

I know how you feel, I’ve been there…I know you have your reasons to say ‘no’ to yourself, reasons to say ‘no’ to your dreams. 

Maybe you’ve been knocked down too many times, and you just don’t know if you can get up again.  But, know this:  As you stand here on the edge between where you were and where you want to be, life will throw you curve balls, life throws curve balls at us all.

Life may seem cruel and hard and what you need to know is, if you believe that then life will knock you down and it will keep you down, if you don’t find the courage to stand up.

Those around you may tell you that you are not good enough, and they may say it so often that you may even begin to believe it. If that happens, you will find yourself looking for someone or something to blame and every time you do, you are telling yourself that you don’t have what it takes to get up.

That’s a lie!

Life will knock you down, but that doesn’t matter anywhere as much as how hard you can get knocked down without giving up on yourself and on your dreams. I know you’ve been hurt, I know you’ve been disappointed…now what?

Many get hit and they never get up, others go to a certain point and they stop.  Let me ask you what would happen if you got up again?

What would happen if you held a greater vision of what you were capable of, and you held this vision despite everything they told you?

Don’t get me wrong, it might not be easy but, let me share with you what more than twenty-five years of research has shown: What is likely to happen firstly is there will be resistance; it could be resistance from your own ego-mind doing its best to keep you safe in the same old, (often miserable) comfort zone. Sometimes, the resistance is external, those who love you, telling you to be careful, “you don’t want to make a fool of yourself” or some other equally rational answer.

Seriously, stop for a moment and let me ask you this:

When you get to your deathbed…

do you think you’ll regret the times you looked foolish pursuing your dreams in order to live the life you came here to live, or do you think you would experience much more regret at not looking foolish and never reaching what you deeply now know you are capable of?

Listen carefully, your ego-mind can be like a ruthless crooked lawyer building a case using whatever it can while calling its lies “logical reasons”.  What you have to do is employ the fierce power that is the fire in your heart that cries out for you to live your dreams.

I get it! You’ve been knocked down and it hurts, the question is, will you get up?

And what will get you up?

What is it that will have you spring to your feet like Rocky and say,

“Is that the best you’ve got!?”

Decide you can, decide you can’t, either way you’re right.

Winning is an inner game and so is losing!

It’s a game played by two: Your authentic self, that gently whispers for the expression of your dreams and your ego-mind that wants to keep you ‘safe’ screaming at you to stay safe by repressing those dreams.

I sign off each of these writings with the statement: ‘live with courage’ because…

courage is not the absence of fear, courage is when you are terrified and you get up and do it anyway!

Would you be offended if someone gave you ‘the finger’?  Maybe you’re saying;”of course !” Well, imagine that you live on a small isolated island, Isla de Pascua (an island in the South Pacific ), do you think the finger would be offensive there?  Likely not.

Okay, what if you were a tourist from North America visiting that small isolated island and everyone you passed gave you ‘the finger’ and smiled while they were doing it? Do you think you’d still be offended?  My guess is still, yes, right?  Now, what if you suddenly discovered that on this island ‘the finger’ means ‘good morning’ , (by the way this is theoretical).  Do you think the level of offense would go down considerably?  Of course, it would.  It might take some getting used to, but within a fairly short period you would smile as you received the greeting.

We assign the meaning of something to the meaning we have given it, even if that meaning is limited or even incorrect.

What’s more, we also assume that the meaning is not only our own, but somewhat universal, or ‘common knowledge’.

How many times do you think you have had the experience of struggling with something that at some level you just knew should be so easy? You read everything you could, you got help from friends, and you practiced it over and over and still couldn’t get it.  Then, just as you are ready to give up , just as you are about to give up on ‘it’ or yourself , someone hands you exactly what you needed, the equation makes sense, and it all falls into place.

Do you remember one of those times? Do you remember how frustrating that can be?
Good, now that you’ve got that clear in your mind, think about this…

Do you ever remember trying to explain something to someone, who’s just not getting it? You tried showing them in as many different ways as you can but they are just not getting it. You may even have told a friend or family member how frustrated you are and that “it’s common knowledge , why can’t they get it?”

Do you also realize that the thing you were once frustrated at trying to learn or understand is now something that you take for granted?

What you may not have previously thought about is, there is a tipping-point in knowledge ; it’s the point where we go from knowing the thing we wanted to know, to now knowing it unconsciously. In other words, we know it without having to think about it.  It’s at this point where the ego-mind can make a grab for the knowledge and claim it as ‘common knowledge’.  If the ego-mind grabs the info it will have you thinking that there is something wrong with someone for not knowing what you know .  However, please remember this…

‘common knowledge’ means it’s common to you.

Coming back to that moment when you went from complete frustration and wanting to give-up on mastering ‘it’ and then you are handed the exact formula you need and everything clicks into place, you see it all so clearly and you feel the relief.

Imagine for a moment that you grew up in some village that is cut off from almost everyone outside the village and in your village everyone tells you and everyone else in the village that 4+4 = 7 .

Somewhere inside you there is a deep knowing that this is incorrect. However, everyone who surrounds you tells you 4+4=7. The village newspaper says 4+4=7; the village radio station says 4+4=7, your mother, father, sister, brother and everyone you know all agree 4+4=7.  The truth is that everyone in the village is going to be willing to fight to hold onto their collective reality and…

it will take courage to stand up and say “no” and do what is right for you, your heart and soul.

Do you now begin to understand how hard it can be to stand in your truth when you are confronted with this ‘truth’ at every turn? Do you see how easy it would be to just go along with what they are saying? In fact you may even begin to think you are a little crazy for thinking differently than they do. That 4+4=7 could be about money, however it could just as easily be a message about health, finding an excellent life partner or anything else you desire.

Here’s the news: You don’t have to fight to achieve abundance ; the ‘Truth’ is that it naturally flows to you and all of us . What you must be willing to fight against is the limited, restrictive mindset that bombards you. Because if you cannot fight beyond the conditioning your ego-mind will never see beyond your own conditioning and the messages you are being fed every single day.

We’ve talked about how important it is to understand that money, wealth and abundance doesn’t have to be hard to achieve, even in an economic downturn. However, as I’ve said many times that doesn’t mean you get to sit around nurturing some false idea of entitlement, some false concept that the world owes you something.

Yes you are unique in your expression in the world, but unique doesn’t make you ‘special’ or ‘better than’, that’s just ego shit.

To achieve the kind of abundance you may dream of, you must express your unique value in the world, and that my friends will take effort. In simple terms you will have to get off your bum, go out into the world, face the possible rejection and peddle your wares.

Now even though you don’t actually have to fight to get abundance and all you have to do is let it in , that is, much easier said than done. Here’s why: You don’t need to fight for the wealth but the irony is that you very well may need to fight to break out of the personal and collective conditioning that says you do and the ego-mind says is true.

It’s an interesting irony isn’t it?  Just think about it for a moment or two . You live, (as do we all) inside a system that tells you at every turn that money, wealth and real abundance is hard to come by , and even though you may know at some deeper level, that’s just not true , you (we) are bombarded with information that says it is true.  We are conditioned to want more, more, more, but what do we really need? What is it that’s really important to us? And what if it’s free?

Once again I remind you this is the time to turn fear into power! To stand up and follow your heart, to grab a hold of the opportunities that are knocking at your door.

Our modes of thinking and the way we have operated in the world are coming to a close; we must embrace change and opportunity at every turn.

Those who choose to quickly embrace change will flourish.

Again: It is time to invest in you! What does that mean? Invest emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and despite the economic scare tactics, FINANCIALLY too.

Invest in your most valuable asset, your development . It’s time to invest in your hopes, your dreams, your heart and your soul. Invest in what takes you out of the limited mindset . Remember that fear is perpetrated to keep us ignorant and only those who are willing to know shall be truly free.

We all know money doesn’t magically turn up out of thin air, but there again somewhere deep inside us we also know that money, wealth, abundance doesn’t have to be hard to attain. We see people all the time who understand the energy of money, people who seem to have an Attracting Force about them that just magnetizes money and the opportunity to have more of it come to them. But the big question is: How? How can those of us who don’t have that certain something get some of it?

We are all here experiencing life in the material world and even though you may not give a cat’s fart about being ‘Trump’ wealthy, you do want to move through your life with enough money to be able to pay for the interactive and joyous experiences you want for yourself and your loved ones. And my guess is you would rather do it without struggle, with a sense that it’s all coming to you naturally.

When you know how to tap into the equation for manifestation that natural level of wealth, money doesn’t rain down from the sky. But what does happen is…

People and opportunities will show up from places that are expected and unexpected.

So you’ve got to keep your eye, ears and perceptions wide open. Sometimes they will be banging on your doors, climbing over your walls and leaking in through the cracks in the windows. Other times they will be subtle, a whisper you overheard from a friend, coworker or casual meeting that presents something you had never even considered and your ego-mind may want to dismiss it, but somewhere deep inside you’ll know, it’s a golden opportunity.

The key thing is to be willing to be open when someone or something genuinely shows up to present you with an opportunity to expand your wealth consciousness and your wealth experience.

In a time where the media doom and gloom is at a record high it can be hard to silence the paranoid noise of lack.

But right now just stop for a moment, ask yourself, and please be honest:

Has some part of you gone deaf to anything other than survival thinking? Has some part of you been blocking out the opportunities that surround you?

Here’s a another question for you to consider: What opportunities that are right in front of you, are you not seeing because you are wearing the fear blinders that have been sold to you?

Remember manifestation of wealth isn’t a magical process were money falls out of the sky, it is, however, where opportunity knocks.

Some open the door, while others bolt it a little tighter.

Which one are you? And which one are you willing to be?

Here’s the bottom line:

Either You Master the Ego-Mind or it Masters You!

• Mastering your ego-mind enables you to make empowered choices based on present-time information because you are operating within this moment, or as you might have heard before, ‘in the now’.

• Mastering your ego-mind frees you of your past, and puts you in the driver’s seat on the expressway to your best future. Not only that, your intuition will be riding shotgun holding a map giving you clear direction through your feelings, avoiding any of life’s emotional, financial, health, or relational traffic jams.

• When you are the master of your ego-mind, you will know what you want in each of the five areas of your life. You will also find it easy to go for what you want in each of those five areas in order to create the sixth pivotal foundation, wisdom!

In contrast, when someone is not in control of their ego-mind they tend to:

• live in the past, often haunted by past mistakes or regret. That person might seem to feel too much –overwhelmed by emotions — or the polar opposite; they may be feeling a certain numbness inside. It can be hard to get excited, or for that matter, become upset about anything… It can feel like your spirit’s broken.

• When you don’t ‘master your ego-mind’ you won’t know, beyond some vague idea, what you want in most areas of your life. Even if you did, there would either be this dreadful voice in the back of your head telling you ‘get it’ or a or a rotten feeling of nervousness and discomfort that like a magnet turned upside down would repel you from even the possibility of achieving and receiving what you want.
