The U.S. is experiencing its second warmest winter in recorded history… but it’s not just the U.S. The rest of the world has been experiencing  more extreme weather conditions as well.

Consider for a moment that the forests that give you, me, and our planet breathable air are disappearing at an estimated rate of 36 football field per minute. The Pacific Ocean pollution from what’s known as “Garbage Island“, a floating island of plastic estimated to be twice the size of Texas,  is killing ocean life through plastic and chemical reactions.

Look, I know that you and I recycle, and maybe even compose, but are we really making any significant difference?

The question becomes:

Is our pursuit of The American Dream Creating the Ecological Crisis

Have we failed to notice the connection between capitalism and the ecological crisis?

Let’s face it, we all know that for most folks, the more we make, the more we spend. However, when we spend our next level of wealth on consumer goods, we are, in fact, adding to the massive problems we are seeing with the ecology of the planet, not least of which is climate change.

So is it time for a radical change?

By that I mean a change that many Americans may even see as anti-American?

Chris Williams - Ecology and Socialism: Solutions to Capitalist Ecological Crisis

Professor Chris Wilson in his latest book Ecology and Socialism: Solutions to Capitalist Ecological Crisis, offers what many would consider a rather radical solution to dealing with what he and so many others believe is nothing short of an ecological disaster.

In the February 9th 2012 episode of the new and improved Accidental Guru Radio Show, I  (Dov Baron) will challenge professor Wilson to show us what it will really take to turn this ecological crisis around.

We will take a look at whether President Obama came through on any of his presidential promises regarding climate change. We’ll discuss the question “Is  party policy around everything, but particularly the environment, is set by the elected officials we the people put there or are are policies actually set by big corporations who are somehow the puppeteers of the Senate, Congress and even the White House? We’ll even look at  the impact or impotence of “the occupy movement.”

If you are a follower of my work, you know that I am in my third decade of being a teacher and, over the years, I have met and hung out with some pretty great people– some famous, many not so much.

I’ve had some amazing experiences, but some are just extra cool. Just a couple of days ago, I felt like I was a kid who had had a couple of hits and now somehow, by some divine intervention, I was invited into the recording studio to be part of   “We Are The World”

I was seated in a room in a hotel on Hollywood Boulevard; a place some would say is ego central, with some of the world’s greatest game changers. As I looked around, I was suddenly deeply aware that I was in the resonance of what it means to be a real thought leader, an influencer of influencers.

Some of these great minds were people I had come to know over the years as friends. Some had been guests on my radio show,  “The Accidental Guru”, although I had never met them in person. Many more I only knew by the impact they have had on the world.

The person in the chair next to me at the round table was none other than Ken Kragen, the man behind the careers of people like Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, and many others and, in case you didn’t know, the “We are the World Project,” which featured virtually every megastar of the day.

Can you imagine being a singer invited into the studio that day? I heard many of them say in interviews that even though the world may have seen them as superstars, to be in the room with those who had been their idols was a dream come true. That may be because of what Quincy Jones said about the making of “We Are the World” and all the massive megastars that came together for the project. Quincy said that all the stars were asked to leave their egos at the door.

That’s what experienced that weekend in L.A. everyone put their ego on hold and opened to making a difference. I found Ken Kragen to be a warm, caring, and lovely man as we discussed the causes we care about and how we could assist each other in making a difference. Ken was just one of the many other thought leaders and world changers I got to share ideas with. People like Jack Canfield, Bill Walsh, Sandra Yancey, Lynn Rose, Brian Tracy, Vishen Lakhiani, Jere Calmes, Patrick Combs, Gary Goldstein, Rick Raddatz, Lisa Sasevich, Wendy Keller, Brad Fallon, Mari Smith, Kevin Hall, Paul Hoffman, Jay Fiset, Freddie Ravel, Cynthia Kersey, Robert Allen, Darren Hardy, Mitch Axelrod, Steven Napolitan and his business partner Tommy the Greek , Bob Yates, JD DeBolt, Rob Waldo Waldman, Larry Bennet, and sooooo many more.

Each and every one of them was totally present and willing to serve everyone who sat by them. Each one was gracious, kind and generous and I am here to tell you that I am a blessed man

That being said: I am also aware that we all have our own lives and a set of priorities that go along with those lives. It is for that reason that it is easy for us to turn off the news and allow ourselves to forget that our brothers and sisters in Japan need our center.

I would like to make a request of you for all of our brother and sisters in Japan. Throughout the day if you would please just take a minute or two to center yourself and deeply feel and repeat the Japanese words: “Heiwa”, pronounced hay-wa, and the word “Chiyu”.

Heiwa is Peace,

Chiyu is Healing.

As you center on these words focus NOT on the devastation, but rather focus on people assisting each other, building bonds, returning to happy healthy living being in a place of peace.

To assist you in doing this, particularly if you feel kind of disconnected from something that may be taking place a long way from your own personal reality…

May I suggest that you think of someone you know, knew of have heard of in some way who is Japanese someone you could have caring for. Failing that center your heart first on beautiful Japanese children playing together.

And as you hold these images, softly, deeply repeat “Heiwa”, and “Chiyu” (Peace and healing).

As much as the ego-mind tells us we are alone and separate, I believe that we have all had at least one moment of knowing the truth, whether in a dream, or through some conscious or unconscious act… Science is only now embracing what mystics have proclaimed for millennia; WE ARE ALL CONNECTED!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you feel that this is an important message, please send this to everyone you know. Even the busiest of us can spare a minute or two.

I’ve worked with people all over the world, and one thing I’ve learned is that everybody, even if they are not consciously aware of it, wants to be a leader.

Listen, I can hear that little voice screaming inside your head: No not me. I don’t want to be a leader.
Yes, you do, honestly you do!

Let me explain…

There are many elements to leadership however, leadership in the way I’m speaking about it here simply means that you have influence over others.
And like it or not, you already have influence, which means, at least in this context; you are a leader.

Whether you know it or not what you say and what you do has influence, in the subtlest possible ways, we all influence people every day.
We try to get people to do the things we want them to do, even if it just means having our latte made exactly the way we want it.

The big problem is that most of us lead unconsciously, because we really don’t know what it is that we want.

Most people without realizing it meander though life thinking they know what they want until directly confronted with that question: “What do you want?” To which most people give nothing more than a ape like grunt of  “Huh, I duh-know”

The challenge with this is we are in fact having influence and creating change around us, but it isn’t always the influence or change we actually want, and that’s because we don’t really know what we want.

The result is to have a bunch of folks who constantly complain, saying that someone ought to step up and do something! Without ever being willing to consciously do what they are already unconsciously doing…leading!

Well, my friends, I’m telling you that the someone who needs to step up is you! In the words of Gandhi: You must be the change you want to see!

What I’m calling you to do is to step up and start consciously influencing people.  Start having a conscious influence on people’s lives, instead of unconscious influence.

Now stay with me here, because I’m not talking about grabbing a megaphone and screaming your agenda at passer by or becoming some manipulative douche bag…

It means you have to understand that you also are being influenced in the direction of what someone wants. Therefore, you have to be willing to stop and ask yourself what you “really” want.

What does that mean?
Start leading the person who is closest to you—YOU!

You see, leadership isn’t a title, like President or Boss. It’s not something someone puts on you. It’s a way of living.
You are already a leader, become a conscious one.

“True leadership is something one lives, not something one tells others to do.” ~Dov Baron…

It’s just that there are things that block you from being the kind of leader you need to be…
Not least of all FEAR. You must learn to face fears and conquer them.

“A true leader inspires others to keep learning, keep growing, keep doing, because the leader knows that yesterdays impossible becomes today’s reality.” ~Dov Baron

One of the other things that blocks you is something I call “unconscious deserving.”

These are beliefs you hold that may or may not be true (they probably aren’t) that keep you from living the life you truly want.

In my next blog, I’ll talk more about these beliefs and how they keep you stuck.
Until then,  just realize that until you are willing to step up, take a stand and accept the fact that you are leader, you will never achieve the life of your dreams and that means that you are likely being influenced in the direction of your fears.

Merry Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, Solstice, or just feet up having a few bevies… We trust you’ll be enjoying it, whatever ‘it’ is to you.

I’m feeling very much in my heart as I write this and I wanted to drop you a more personal message: Please know that we are sending you our love, even if we haven’t seen you in awhile.

For my bride Renuka and I this is traditionally the time of year where we actually get to unwind a little, (preferably in the sun and ocean with drinks containing, among other things; umbrellas).

For you it may be something else. Christmas can be so many things to so many people; for some it’s wonderful and for others… not so much.

To me, there’s not much that is more heart warming than watching the excitement on a small child’s face on Christmas morning. It’s almost as if the excitement is literally leaking out of every pore. It’s a sight that infects and lifts even the saddest soul.

I know that this year has been one of the toughest ever for so many, we have certainly had at least our own share of challenges. However, you know as well as we do that life is nothing more than a series of moments strung together. As my friend Arthur Joseph said: They may seem like random moments, and on one level they are, but they are also connected/related, one to the other.

There have no doubt been moments over the last year where you felt down, and moments where you felt up, and although they are what they are, I believe that one of the things that keeps us going are the moments where we have certainty that we are loved.

So, whether we are saying a politically correct “Happy Holidays ” or a supposedly less correct “Merry Christmas” know this, even though we may not have seen as much of you as we would prefer, you can be certain that we think of you often, we are grateful to have you in our lives and you can be certain that you are loved.

We are all born into our birth families, some of us feel deeply connected to them, and for others they couldn’t be more alien. For me family is a spiritual thing; family are the people who love you, support you, and tell you the truth even if it stings. And you hear what they say with your heart because those speaking hold you to the highest possibility of who you can be.

Over this holiday season, please remember, we love you and to us, you are family!

As the new year approaches I challenge you to, as John Lennon said: “Give Peace a chance”. Whatever is placed before you: choose to do something or choose not to do it. Don’t beat yourself up for it, just choose it and let go, when you do, everything around you, within and without you changes, to be more peaceful.

Love is Gratitude in Action

Normally I don’t look in my junk mail folder. However, for some unknown, mysterious reason today I had an intuition to do so. What I found inside was a pure gift of gratitude. What a blessing!

Isn’t it strange that we need an actual holiday to remind us to be thankful?

I know that many of you who read my articles don’t live in the US and for many, where you live there is no such holiday as “Thanksgiving.” But, you know what, this article is for you, no matter where in the world you are, because I would like you to please accept my gratitude for you. As you read on you’ll know why I’m specifically talking to you.

Holiday time can be a little insane for most people, and in all likelihood, you’re probably busier than a one armed mom with newborn triplets.
However, I trust that you will see, investing a few minutes to read this article will prove well worth your time.

You are reading this, aren’t you? Then, you care about gratitude, correct?

Well, no matter what country you are living in, right now let me ask you to be honest and answer this question:

How much time do you spend in genuine gratitude?

I remember when I was a kid sitting in front of the TV as some futurist was telling the viewers how we were all going to be having all our meals in pill form, and that we would all have so much leisure time we would only work if we chose to. Boy, were the experts WRONG!

Obviously, you’ve likely noticed that every day there seem to be a million new things to do. Each day it can seem difficult to even slow down enough to catch a little downtime.  By the time most people get home, all they have the energy do is turn on the TV to unwind, only to be assaulted with the news of doom and gloom.

Clearly most of the time, the majority of people run around like chickens with their heads cut off doing more and more, while feeling less and less connected, to themselves or anyone else.

If you have any sense of yourself in what you just read, then, like most people, you are running on empty! I know.  I’ve been there myself.

So in a crazy, hectic world, what can we do to fill up a little?

Right now, forget everything for a couple of minutes and listen…

STOP and take a moment to become aware of the blessings in your life.

As many of you know, energy is the necessary ingredient for manifestation. Well, there is a wonderful “new’” movement of interest in manifestation. Perhaps you have read about it in my books or have heard me talk about it either at a workshop, my podcasts or in a tele-program or even on my radio show: Quantum Resonance. It is having or building a certain Quantum Resonance that determines what you manifest.

Here’s the little known secret: One of the most powerful quantum energies for manifestation is Gratitude.

Got your attention? Good! You need to stop skimming for a moment and really take this in, because when I say “gratitude” I’m talking about the real stuff, the all-meat, a real treat, genuine heartfelt, preferably eyeball-to-eyeball or at least heart-to-heart connection.

In other words, thanks delivered with real meaning rather than some perfunctory “thanks.”

One way of recognizing what you have and genuinely appreciating it comes from stopping and considering all the things that go by each day that can so easily get taken for granted:

• The smile on a child’s face as they say “hello” or “goodbye’” to you.
• Getting a call from your partner, friend, sibling, or family member to genuinely ask how you are doing.
• Being able to breathe and smell the flowers or maybe the coffee.
• How about gratitude for having the strength to do what you need to and desire to do?
• Or knowing there is someone, somewhere who loves you.
• Or receiving kindness, whether it was a smile, food, a kind word, a gentle kiss, or even this article.

I’ve been speaking around the world to thousands of people for many years now and I want to stop and say:

This Thanksgiving and every day, I am grateful for you.

Yes, I am talking to YOU!

If you’ve been following my work, you already know that I have a dream.
My dream is to facilitate people like you into stepping more fully into their power. Now you may be saying, “What the heck does that mean?”

“Stepping more fully into your power” means being able to assist people all over the world in knowing that despite the current circumstances, you are truly powerful and that you have the power to be a leader in your own life and the lives of those you interact with….

In so doing, you create the life that your heart and soul cries out to live.

I am truly grateful to you because, through you, I get to live my dream, my purpose, my mission.

That was what happened when I found that email I was telling you about at the beginning of this article. I opened the message to be blessed by a student of Baron Mastery whom we had not heard from in some time.
This person showered us with love and gratitude for the massive positive changes in their life. They went on to say that there had been a time where they had taken what they had learned from us and all the growth that had come from it for granted, but not anymore. Now “life is undeniably sweet!”

Your work on yourself and your support of our collective mission keeps me believing we can, and do, create tomorrow’s high performance leaders.

Thank you to my beloved bride, best friend and partner, the sweetness in my life and my guru of kindness, my inspiration: Renuka. Each day I am grateful for her and for the work I did to clear my poop in order to attract this amazing woman into my life more than a decade ago.

Renuka, you are the light in my heart, my greatest inspiration and biggest supporter. You have held me when I could have been crushed and in that moment, your love and strength kept me walking my path when I felt crippled. Thank you!

I’m wondering if you will now take action based on what you’ve read here? You probably already know.

However, here’s what I suggest you do right now:

Take out your pen and journal and write a list of whom and what you are grateful for.

Once you have done that, I would suggest that you buy some thank you cards and write notes of gratitude. At least send an email or make a phone call to those people. (I like cards because some people are uncomfortable taking in gratitude and nobody can interrupt or dismiss the written word).

It’s not that long ago that I was having a conversation with someone who said to me, “It must be wonderful to touch all these people’s lives.” My reply was and still is, that it is wonderful; however, what is equally wonderful is that you touch mine just as much.

Thank you from the depths of everything I am and all I can become.

Remember; nothing can crush you unless you allow it.

She had a sparkle in her eye and deep admiration in her voice as she spoke. “You are so great. I wish I had what you have.”

Rosa Parks: The Gonads to Lead!

As deeply grateful as I was for the compliment, I asked, “What does that mean?” The young lady who was telling me how great I am went on to say that she just doesn’t have that kind of greatness within her.

Leaning down slightly, I looked her straight in the eyes and asked, “Have you always been a liar?”

Clearly shocked and quite defensive she retorted, “I don’t lie!”

“Oh really? Then what do you call what you just said?”

She said that she wasn’t lying about what she said about me.  I told her that the lie was what she said about herself.

Look I know this may come as a bit of a bombshell to you, but despite what you may have believed, greatness is not reserved for the few…

Greatness is available to all who are willing to claim it.  Sadly, few have the gonads to take a stand and claim their own greatness.

When you first step up and begin taking a stand, you may be seen as weird or a freak.  Some people will tell you that you are getting too big for your boots and suggest that you should tone it down.

So let me ask you– Do you know what you stand for?  Are you willing to stand and fight for it, even if no one understands?

The simple truth is it doesn’t matter if no one else believes; you must believe with all your heart, all your soul and all your might that you are here with a purpose. When you do this, all excuses including time, money and other people’s opinions immediately die!

To give it to you between the eyes–

Are you going to keep believing what others say is impossible? Or are you willing to be a Rosa Parks, Thomas Edison, a Guglielmo Marconi, a Werner Heisenberg, a Roger Bannister, a Wright brother about what it is that you came here to do?

“With a single shift from ‘impossible’ to ‘I’m Possible’ people do what others consider impossible everyday. Avoid believing other peoples’ limitations.” ~Dov Baron

Is where you are where you want to be? Is where you are where you see yourself continuing to be? Or are you brave enough, enough of a leader to dream a bigger dream of your reality and act upon it with the faith, power and sweat to make it happen? Do you love life enough to want even more of it? Or are you just looking to ease the pain of where you are now?

Seriously, put some thought into this. What are you waiting for? Nothing and no one is coming to rescue you. Those who know the sweet nectar of true success understand that it was worth the effort, even in the moments where they wanted to quit.  While others are complaining, the true leader is finding better ways and working at becoming better with those better ways.

Do you want your relationships, your work, your life to matter? I believe that you have a responsibility to make not only your life better, but also the lives of those you touch.

Take care of your dreams; protect them for they are sacred.  Remember that those who have given up on their dreams cannot fully support you in yours. They will tell you it can’t be done because they did not have the courage to do it themselves.

So instead of wishful thinking or running excuses about why it can’t be done, RIGHT NOW recall a moment in your own history or the history of someone you know when you saw the impossible occur! Put your focus there, because it will help you understand that what you once believed to be impossible is, in fact, possible.

I have to say it is one of the great blessings of my life to see folks crush their fears and limitation so that they can fly to their dreams. Embracing The Freak for Fun and Profit!

It wasn’t until my thirties that I realized that being called a “freak”, “weirdo”, or “strange” were compliments. These were in fact clear messages that I was not like the people around me… (and thank heavens for that)

Richard Bandler said; “Nothing has any meaning but the meaning we give it.”

There was a time when I had given these labels a meaning that I was different and by virtue of that, not lovable. I finally realized I needed a new meaning. Being different meant that I had to look at who I was separate from the crowd. I began to see my unique gifts. I began to see my differences as blessings I had been gifted. Instead of seeing those labels as negative they became positive. These labels were in fact statements that I was and am unique.

Therefore I was not average as…

“Average; the best of the worst and worst of the best” -Dov Baron.

I finally got that not fitting in didn’t make me less than average, it made me aspire to be so much more. In so doing, I had to acknowledge my gifts and that I am compelled to share those gifts.

Hey, stop skimming for a moment... Because I have a  gift Id like to share with you here is this; rather than reading this as if it was about me, (Dov Baron) read it as if it is about you. How have you let the labels from others become the screaming voice of the insane that keeps you hidden in the mediocrity that prevents you from being who you are and sharing your gifts?

Let me challenge you to put aside the labels of yesterday and begin the empowering journey of discovering your Unique Value Set.

Your Unique Value Set. is a set of skills, knowledge or talent you all ready have but likely don’t fully recognize yet. However, when all the parts of that Unique Value Set come together what results is your own personal brand of genius. The challenge has been that you have likely either ignored or take this Unique Value Set for granted and as a result you have created your own Genius Blind Spot!

My questions to you are; are you willing to see that discovering your Unique Value Set, your Genius Blind Spot, could have a profound impact on not only your income but also the quality of your entire life?

What would discovering that make available to you that had previously believed to be impossible?

And if you expanded that out over the next 2-5-10-40 years what might be the impact you’d have on your own life and the lives of those you love?

My last two questions are here to assist you in finding out whether what you want is a fantasy or reality:

The Real Cost of Doing Business

Both Business Leaders and Small Business Owners alike are asking that same question.

I’ve been in business a long time, maybe longer than some of my readers have been on the planet.

In that time, as you can probably imagine, I’ve been asked many times about the cost of doing business. It seems that people want to know because they want to know if they can afford it.

It’s a good question: What does it cost to be in business?

Obviously there is the cost of the property you operate out of, (although many folks do business from home these days).  There’s the obvious cost of staffing, although with remote workers many of those costs can be reduced. Then there are fixed costs such as electricity, phone line, internet connection and rent, (even if you operate out of home).

But those aren’t the real costs. Bear with me, because I’m going to share with you the real cost of doing business in this new economy in a moment.

In a few weeks I will be with a great group of teachers sharing our knowledge, insights and strategies so that you can create Quantum Wealthy Mastery in your life. I’m not going to go into details about the event here; there’s no sales job in this article. (In fact it may even put some people off the idea of going into business.)

You can simply Click Here if you want more info. What I will tell you is that an hour after I went to bed for my night’s sleep, I was awakened with inspiration to write this article.

As you would imagine, many of the people attending this event with either be in business or looking to start some kind of business. As I step on the stage to speak (maybe to you!), I want to make sure that I am in full integrity about what it takes to create success, in this case, financial success.

That being said, let’s assume you do want to be in business and you’ve got enough money to start. Let’s also assume you are even willing to put in the hours, which will, without doubt, far exceed the hours you ever put in working a job. So let’s get into the real meat and spuds of it.

There is another cost that you will want to consider seriously before going into business. It’s a cost that will become more and more evident in the new economy.

Let me warn you: It’s a cost you must seriously weigh before you make a commitment.

As you can no doubt tell, there are still signs of the old-guard cut-throat, massively competitive business model around. It may even have legs for a little while longer, nonetheless, those legs are getting more and more wobbly by the moment.

The great news is, there is a new model for doing business that is emerging. It is a model that I believe will challenge the hell out of the old guard.

The new model is one rooted in The Three Cs of the new economy:

Cooperation, Collaboration, and Contribution.

And at the center of this new model is a theme that today’s generation will come to expect, the central and very necessary cog for doing business in the new economy, another very important C–Caring!

This isn’t the old corporate rhetoric of saying “We care.” No, what I’m talking about here is actually giving a shit about the people you do business with.

Social media, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the hundreds of other social media sites have changed the distance between people. They have allowed people who were vague icons off in the distance to become people you can reach out to in as little as 140 characters and surprisingly they will, and most often do reach back.

Today’s rock, pop, and movie stars are made through the relationships they build on-line. Tomorrow’s business will be built in just the same way. (It’s already happening!)

So when you ask me: “What is the cost of doing business?” I’ll tell you…

“It’s 1:43a.m. right now, on a work day, and I’m writing this to YOU, yes YOU! Why? Because I genuinely give a shit!

The real cost of doing business today is that you must genuinely give a shit about your customers, you must treat them with the respect of being people rather than ‘buying units.’”

Bottom Line:

“If you don’t want to be relational, then you, my friend, no matter how much money you have, cannot afford the cost of doing business today!”

Does this make sense to you?

Here’s an example.  “The 5 Foundations of Building Wealth From The Inside Out” is an eBook I wrote. People have found great value in it.  One of  those foundations for being truly successful is that you must be genuinely relational. If you think it’s a marketing phase, think again…

Keep this in mind.

You have to be willing to do what it takes to show someone you genuinely care, even if there is nothing in it for you.

Look, even if you have previously bought it and you’ve already read it, let me suggest that you read it again. Everything has changed in the new economy and I think you’ll discover that what that book says is even more relevant than when I wrote it some years ago.

Make no mistake, I’ve had 25+ years in business, and I’ve seen a lot of changes. Some of those changes have been in my inner world. For instance, in 1990 I fell off a mountain and got smashed to pieces. Then about five years ago, something else changed that was indefinable to me. However, I knew both myself and my industry had changed forever.

Hang on, I’ll explain… At that time I was working with a consultant who was always trying to get me to be distant from my students, clients and customers. I would regularly piss him off because I am all about relationships and so I would make myself available.

Needless to say, that chap and I parted ways. It was then when I re-emerged with a clean commitment:

Show people we care; always give them more than they expect while providing them with tons of value. Simply put–we will always let our customers, clients and students experience that we genuinely give a shit about them.

And that’s what it’s all about. In the new economy, the real cost of doing business is that you must be willing to be in relationship with your customers. You must be willing to genuinely give a shit.

My question to you, dear reader, and everyone you know who has in some way interacted with us is this:  Do you get it that I (Dov Baron) and  my company Baron Mastery Institute genuinely care about you… that we genuinely give a shit?
