Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker
Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker took time on Sunday to criticize the war on drugs, the War on Drugs and it’s impact on the African-American communities, being that blacks make up just 14% of all drug users, but half of those in prison for drug offenses.
Mayor Cory Booker stated that it was ineffective and “represents big overgrown government at its worst.”
“The so called War on Drugs has not succeeded in making significant reductions in drug use, drug arrests or violence,” the Mayor wrote during the Reddit “ask me anything” chat.
“We are pouring huge amounts of our public resources into this current effort that are bleeding our public treasury and unnecessarily undermining human potential.”
Booker then called drug arrests a “game.”
Mayor Cory Booker, I salute you for behaving the way of the Authentic Leader! Authentic Leaders! You were NOT politically correct and you said what you believed must be said. Authentic Leaders are masters of risk, they are willing to get comfortable being uncomfortable because their purpose or mission is more important than their status…Bravo sir!
